Taber Abrasers are durable, precision-built instruments designed to perform accelerated wear tests on a variety of specimens. These include solid materials, painted, lacquered, electro-plated surfaces, plastic-coated materials, textiles, metals, leather, rubber and linoleum.
Materials are subjected to the wear action of two abrasive wheels at a known load. This wear action results when the abrasive wheels are rotated in opposite directions by a turntable on which the specimen material is mounted. The abrading wheels travel on the material about a horizontal axis displaced tangentially from the axis of the test material which results in a sliding action. An exclusive feature of the Taber Abraser is an “X” pattern of abrasion, produced by the rotary rub-wear action of the wheels.
The wear pattern formed is that of two intersecting areas or a slightly curved herringbone configuration from the outside to the center, and from the center to the outside of the specimen. An area of 30 square centimeters is subjected to test and a complete circle on the material surface is abraded at all angles of grain or weave.
Referenced in numerous international test standards and specifications. Simple to operate, this instrument has been accepted worldwide as a standard for wear and abrasion
research, quality and process control, materials evaluation, and product development. Taber Rotary
Abrasers are capable of providing reliable data in a matter of minutes, compared to the years that may
be required with in-use testing.
Test a wide range of products. The Taber Abraser can be used to test virtually any flat specimen. Its field of application has included
tests of: painted, lacquered, powder coated, and electroplated surfaces; textile fabrics ranging from
sheer silks to heavy upholstery and carpeting; and solid materials such as metals, stone and ceramics.
Other materials include paper, glass, plastics, leather, rubber, linoleum, laminates, plus many others.

Taber Quiet Cabinet
??
In some laboratory environments, the Taber Abraser and its associated vacuum system can create sound levels that are above normal. The "Quiet Cabinet" will reduce sound levels and provide a convenient, dust-free work space.
??
Strategically placed sound deadening materials typically reduce abraser sound levels 20%. Typical sound level without cabinet is approximately 78dB-with cabinet 63dB
Solid two-piece cabinet blends with any lab environment
Upper cabinet half holds the abraser & features a plexi-glass door that permits viewing the tester while in operation.
Lower cabinet half holds the abraser vacuum unit and has a built-in exhaust system for proper cooling.
All four feet allow for cabinet leveling adjustments.
Can be purchased as a complete unit or as top or bottom half.
??
Top half - 30" wide x 24" deep x 19.5" high, 75 lbs
Bottom half - 30" wide x 24" deep x 33.5 high, 130 lbs

ST-11 Refacing Stone
??
Vitrified compositon consisting of fine side (180 grit), 4” diameter x 1/4” thick with 1/4” center hole. (Replaces original Duplex ST-11 Refacing Stone which offered fine (80 grit) and coarse (180 grit) sides. Used exclusively to reface Taber CS-10F Wheels, the ST-11 Refacing Stone is specified in numerous test methods for transparent materials: ASTM D1044, ISO 3537, ANSI Z26.1.
There is a STAMPED side (left in picture shown) and a BLANK side (right in picture shown) Each side provides a maximum 400 refacings or 10,000 cycles. As the new stone allows the operator to use BOTH sides, each stone now provides a total of 800 refacings or 20,000 cycles. This means that purchasing ONE ST-11 Refacing Stone is equivlent to purchasing two old-style stones.
It is important to track the usage of the Refacing Stone so as not to exceed the maximum limit. For that purpose, two tracking cards are provided. Each card allows the operator to select what side of the stone is being used (STAMPED or BLANK) while keeping tally of the use of the stone. Each box should be marked when 25 cycles are completed.
