Bostwick 流動式黏度計透過測量給定時間間隔內物料在自重作用下流動的距離來確定黏性物料的黏稠度。該儀器使果凍、蜜餞、醬汁等產品的生產商能夠為其產品預先確定精確可靠的配方，並對生產批次進行標準化。
符合 Mill Spec R-81294D 和 ASTM F1080-93 中規定的程序。
具有低成本、容易操作、經久耐用之特色。不論在實驗室或生產現場，只需 75ml樣品即可快速檢測樣品是否符合標準黏度及流動性，是現今最簡單，也最準確的方法，廣為化學、造漆、化妝品、食品業所採用。

CONSISTOMETER 整體以耐腐蝕的不鏽鋼製造，底板設有精密刻度 (每格 0.5cm)。測試後清潔只需用水沖洗即可。為求實驗一致性，底座附有氣泡式水平儀，可透過左右2顆腳座調整水平度。

使用方法
1. 取一定體積之樣本(通常為75ml)，倒入測試槽
2. 按下釋放桿，彈簧迅速將閘門昇起
3. 當樣本向下流動時，依底部刻度即可讀出流動性。比較一定時間內樣本流動的刻度，即可評估樣本之物理特性。

Significances and Use

ASTM F 1080 states the measurement of flow gives results that cannot be predicted with viscosity measurements due to surface tension and density effect. The measured flow is related to flow performance of viscous materials sprayed on aircraft surfaces or other large areas.

This stainless steel device is designed to determine the flow of a standard volume of thick liquid or semisolid under its own weight. It consists of a stainless steel reservoir with trap door, engraved graduated track with sidewalls and leveling screws with bubble level.

Operation

A 75ML sample of material is poured into the reservoir and the distance of flow in a horizontal direction is read from an engraved ruled track after a fixed time following the materials release from the spring loaded gate reservoir.

Precision and Bias

Precision

Reproducibility - Viscous materials often vary in consistency dependent upon age, temperature, and shear history. Caution should be exercised between laboratories regarding the history of a sample. Duplicate results by the same operator on the same sample shall be within 0.5 cm.

Bias

No statement can be made regarding bias as there are no absolute nor widely accepted standards for the property measured by the consistometer.

It is the responsibility of the user of the equipment described herein to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
